Who is Ian Somerhalder?

Ian Joseph Somerhalder is the hot vampire we love on The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore. He's also known as Boone Carlyle in Lost and Adam Knight in Smallville.

Ian Somerhalder is of French and English descent from his father's side, and his mother is of Irish and Choctaw ancestry. When he was 10, his mother suggested that he earn a living by modelling, so he did, and he got a three-year contract with Ford agency in New York. Ian Somerhalder modelled in New York, Paris, Milan and London, for Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Gucci, and Guess?.

His first big acting role was as Paul Denton in The Rules of Attraction (2002). Then, he has starred in several movies, until he landed a role in Pulse (2006), with Kristen Bell and Christina Millian. In 2009, he had a role in a direct-to-dvd film called The Tournament, alongside Robert Carlyle, Kelly Hu, Ving Rhames and Liam Cunningham.

Ian Somerhalder has recently completed filming a comedy called How to Make Love to a Woman (2010), opposite Krysten Ritter (Confessions of a Shopaholic), Josh Meyers (That '70s Show, Bruno), Nora Kirkpatrick (Katherine in tv series Greek), and ex-porn star Jenna Jameson. He will also be seen in goth movie Cradlewood (2011), directed by Harry Weinmann.

The Vampire Diaries will commence its first season on 25 March 2010 with episode 15, A Few Good Men, 8.00pm on The CW.

Interesting facts: Ian hasn't eaten McDonald's in 10 years and he eats fish every day. He claims that fast food makes him sick because he was brought up by his mother in Mississippi, who believes in Eastern medicine and organic foods.
