The Way Back (2010) Movie Review

The Way Back (2010) was one of the movies that I've watched recently, and loved. Loved it so much that I watched it more than once.

There are many reasons why I love this movie. Forgive me but if you're looking for a professional review, I won't give you that. Instead, this is an amateur, strictly non-serious review from a movie fan.

I love Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan. Loved them from the very beginning I saw them in their respective movies. I've never been a fan of Colin Farrell, but he was awesome in this movie.

I've always loved movies based on real life events, and this movie touched my heart. It's about how faith is always there, and all we need to do is to feel it and just never stop hoping. It's about appreciating how peaceful our country is, and how we can go anywhere without any restrictions, and it's about appreciating what we have.

I also love movies that are more than 2 hours long. I am weird like that.

If you like survival movies, mixed with some adventure, you'll enjoy The Way Back (2010), directed by Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society (1989), The Truman Show (1998)).

The Vow (2012) Movie Review

I finally went to the movies yesterday. After months of complaining on how I need to go and watch a movie, I did. I watched The Vow, alone, because Jojo didn't feel like watching a movie. It's a romantic movie anyway, and I didn't feel like making him accompany me.

I've always loved watching movies alone. I used to do that when I was in KL. I'd meet a client at Suria KLCC on a weekday, and I'd watch a movie right after. It has always been fun and therapeutic, sitting by myself in the cinema with my popcorn and drink, enjoying the movie without worrying of having to talk to anyone. Loved every moment of it!

Ooh, spoiler alert from this point onward! So I watched The Vow at MBO, at The Spring Mall. I loved it! The movie was not at all cheesy, and surprisingly, Channing Tatum's acting was quite good. He didn't talk in that rapper tone like he did in Step Up 1 and 2, which was a relief. I love Rachel McAdams, but in this movie, I don't know. Perhaps the chemistry between her and Tatum is not enough for me.

I did shed a tear or two. I found myself trying to fight back tears during some of the scenes, but I couldn't stop it. Some scenes were very touching, and although the lines weren't very memorable for me, I think that's a good thing. I didn't find myself cringing at any of the scenes. In fact, I laughed along at some funny scenes, along with the audience.

The Vow is not one of those romantic movies that I'd watch again very, very soon, but I won't mind watching it if it's shown on tv. It made me cry and chuckle, so it's all good. It made me feel that ache in my heart, like I want my very own Leo (Channing Tatum's character) too. He's not overly charming or romantic, but he's thoughtful. I like that.

I had so much fun yesterday, I think another movie is in order. Maybe tomorrow? We'll see. Happy Tuesday!

Burlesque (2010) Movie Review

I went to the movies with my brother yesterday and watched Burlesque (2010). We have been planning to watch a movie since I came back to my hometown, and since we both love musicals, we decided to watch Burlesque.

I love Christina Aquilera and it's unfortunate that her singing career is almost non-existent. She has great vocals and throughout her performances in the movie, I kept wondering what's going on with her and her life. She needs to pull herself together if she wants to keep what's left of her career. I do think that she looks gorgeous in the movie!

Anyway, I love Cher, Stanley Tucci and Cam Gigandet too. They saved the movie. Cher wowed me with her performance of Welcome to Burlesque. I've always loved Tucci, ever since his performance in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) with and Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Cam Gigandet is super hot!

The movie was entertaining, but it's not something I'd like to watch again, not even if it's showing on tv. My brother enjoyed it as well. However, I couldn't help but think that Burlesque is too close of a reminicense to Coyote Ugly (2000), starring Piper Perabo. Burlesque fares better on IMDB than Coyote Ugly, though.

Who is Gal Gadot?

Gal Gadot is an Israeli model and actress. She was the winner for Miss Israel 2004 and represented Israel at the 2004 Miss Universe pageant. She's also probably best known for her role as Gisele Harabo in the movie Fast & Furious (2009).

Gal Gadot also plays Lisa in Entourage, and the role of Olivia in The Beautiful Life. She recently played Natanya in Date Night (2010), and had a small role in Knight and Day (2010).

Gal Gadot will be reprising her role as Gisele Harabo in Fast Five (2011), which will be released on 29 April 2011 in the USA, right before Gadot's birthday on 30 April.

I'm not sure if this girl can act, but love her look and love her gorgeous skin! Totally stunning.

Who is Astrid Berges-Frisbey?

Astrid Berges-Frisbey or Astrid Bergès-Frisbey is a Spanish-French actress, born 26 May 1986. She is also a model, and she has been modelling for French Connection. Her movie debut was in 2008, in the movie Un barrage contre le Pacifique.

She will also be seen next in a romantic French movie called La fille du puisatier (The Well Digger's Daughter), a remake of the French 1940's movie. She will be playing the role of Patricia Amoretti, opposite Daniel Auteuil,Nicolas Duvauchelle and Kad Merad.

Astrid Bergès-Frisbey will be playing Syrena the mermaid in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), alongside Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Sam Claflin.

I thought I'd never be interested in another Jack Sparrow movie, but after watching the trailer, I'll definitely watch this one too!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the fourth movie of the franchise, starring Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, Stephen Graham, Gemma Ward and Richard Griffiths.

The movie is set to be released on 20 May 2011 in the US, and on 19 May 2011 in Malaysia and Singapore.

There will be zombies and mermaids, so that should be pretty cool. The movie is also the first movie in the series to be released in 3D. Check out the trailer!

Movie Review - The Social Network (2010)

I just came back from watching The Social Network preview. My blogger buddy, Shemah from Reel Madhouse invited me to be her plus one, and it was the first Malaysian preview for the movie.

I've just deleted some so-called friends off my Facebook friends list a few days ago. How ironic is it that I was going to watch The Social Network?

I don't normally write movie reviews, therefore, pardon me for sounding amateurish. I quite like the movie. I've always liked Jesse Eisenberg and I don't mind Justin Timberlake, but I'd like to see Andrew Garfield in more movies. I personally think that Jesse Eisenberg did an awesome job as Mark Zuckerman, and I cannot picture any other actor as Zuckerman.

I love how the characters are witty and funny without sounding dumb. The script is excellently written and the storyline is very entertaining. I'm giving The Social Network 4 out of 5 stars. Go watch!
